WELCOME HOME MARK PAVLAK
MICHIGAN CITY — Michigan City welcomed home U.S. Navy Machinist Mate Fireman Mark Pavlak from a tour in Afghanistan Friday at the Clarion Inn with signs and an entryway of American flags held by The Wall Gang, the Guardian Riders and friends.
The reunion of Pavlak with his family was delayed by a few hours when he enountered airline delays, but he arrived at about noon in Michigan City to the loving embrace of his parents and family members and “welcome home” handshakes and hugs from the veterans who surrounded him. Pavlak said he was very excited to be home and thanked everyone for the show of support and the welcome he received. When he stepped out of the car, carrying flowers for his mother and a stuffed animal for his niece, he seemed a bit stunned by the welcome. “It’s great to be home,” he said. “I’m glad I could make my parents happy by being able to come home.” He added that the first thing he planned to do when he got home was to open Christmas presents with his family, who delayed the holiday celebration until he was able to return home. Before the Michigan City Police Department, Wall Gang and the Guardian Riders escorted Pavlak in a motorcade home, the Wall Gang’s Steve Moore presented Pavlak with the La Porte County Service Medal and a Wall Gang pin. “Lets escort him hommotorcycles drove in formation behind the police cars for the drive to Pavlak’s house. Rebecca Pavlak, Mark’s mother, said after Friday night’s Christmas celebration, there will be another party for family and friends this weekend. Mark is also planning a visit to Pine School on Monday, where a class of students has been writing to him while he has been deployed. Mark attended Pine School on his way to graduating from Michigan City High School in 2011. The family will be together for about 10 days before Mark, who just turned 20 years old, must return to his station and continue his servicee,” Moore said, as the motorcycles drove in formation behind the police cars for the drive to Pavlak’s house.
